How to rapidly update many Dell Servers:
-Use a SSD, set the system BIOS to UEFI
-Set the drive up to be a non-RAID volume
-these two steps help the portability of this hard drive to be used in multiple systems. Typically one can move the same SSD with the same OS on multiple machine models with multiple configurations.
-Install most any version of Windows
-Obtain the System Update Utility (SUU) from dell.com/support, move that file to the desktop of the SSD
-double click the ISO file, this mounts it as a virtual DVD
-browse to that virtual DVD, look for the “suuupdate” executable, double click
-after launching the utility, it scans the system hardware and then displays a list of known devices with their firmware versions. It auto-selects items it deems upgradable. Choose “Apply” and wait; the process may take some time. When the utility finishes, reboot the system to complete the BIOS update.
-In some cases it might be necessary to run it a second time to see if anything didn’t get applied, IE it failed.
-Once done, r
econfigure the hard drives as desired, and move the SSD to the next target.
-this utility will upgrade and “Dell” hard drive or I/O card, so feel free to add in extra cards and drives that don’t necessarily need to be in the system.
